Coimbatore: The state government’s decision to enable 100% of residence in the cinema from Monday has not benefited the cinema in the city, because the number of viewers has not seen a surge in the first two days.
The theater owner said they were waiting for a star-studded movie like ‘Annaatthe’ and ‘enemy’ to hit the screen to attract many people.
The two films are planned to be released for Diwali.
The theater manager said the film in general did not attract a large crowd for more than now.
They said the latest releases like ‘doctors’ and ‘Armanai 3’ have received a good response at first, but they did not draw more people.
“It’s been more than three weeks since the crowds have hit the screen.
The number of people visiting the cinema has dropped to a new low in the past week.
” The scene was no different on Tuesday, when only a few voters to watch movies, it was also just to kill time.
P Benjamin, who visited the cinema kg for the afternoon show, said he just wanted to check whether there was an interesting film.
Coming from the caramadai, he came to town for some work.
He decided to watch a movie, because he had some free time in between.
“Only Sivakarthikeyan-starring’dokter’t have attracted several people in recent weeks.
While only 50% of housing is permitted, no other film is played by filling out all 50% of seats.
For events today (Tuesday), we have sold only 40 tickets.
In most of our day screening films only for that purpose, “said the leading theater manager in the city.
N Sathaiah, supervisor, Shanthi Theater, said they were big betting on films such as Rajinikanth-starring ‘Annaatthe’, and Vishal & Arya starring ‘enemies’ to attract more people.
“Tickets for’annaatthe are sold out for Diwali and the following days.
We are ready to see the room completely crowded after a long time.
” The owner of the cinema is also concerned about many good films getting released on the OTT platform.
One theater owner in the city of Suriya-starring ‘Jai Bhim’, which was released on the OTT platform, was well received by viewers.
“If it has been released in the cinema, it will provide strict competition for other films scheduled for Diwali.
With only a few films getting released on all screens in the city, there will be no crowd after four to five days.
