Chennai: Finally there are some concessions from rain because IMD says wet spells will subside from Friday.
IMD has predicted rain until moderate for the next two days of the city.
But the break may not be too long, because the new low-pressure area is likely to be formed above the South Andaman Sea around November 13.
On Thursday, depression on the bay crossed near Chennai Beach between 17:30 and 6:30.
“From Friday and so on, there is a possibility of reducing rainfall,” said S Balachandran, Deputy Director General, IMD.
During the next 48 hours, IMD had predicted rainfall to moderate with cloudy skies in the city and suburbs.
Insulated places above the nilgiris, Coimbatore and Kanyakumari Regency can receive a storm with heavy rain on Friday.
Balacandran said Tamil Nadu recorded 40cm rainfall in the northeast rainy season starting October 1 against normal 26cm.
Chennai registered 74cm against normal 42cm, recorded rain surplus 77%.
IMD then tweeted, “The new low-pressure area is likely to be formed in the South Andaman Sea and the environment around November 13.
It is likely to move Westnorthwests and become more marked for the next 48 hours.” But weather fans said there was an opportunity for the system to pass Chennai and ride to the latitude to Andhra Pradesh.
