New York: US actor Michael K Williams, one of the most memorable television stars from the last few years for his role as Omar a little in the “wire,” has been found dead in his New York City apartment, said the police said Monday.
The news of the death of the 54-year-old child, who starred in the Iconic Baltimore Stick-Up men in innovative television series, triggered the outpouring of sadness among fans and former colleagues.
The actor’s representative said “with deep sadness that the family announced the settlement of Emmy Michael’s nomination actor Kenneth Williams.” “They ask your privacy while barbed this,” said a statement from Marianna Shafran from Shafran PR.
An officer for the New York Police Department told AFP that Williams had been found dead in his apartment in Brooklyn by family members.
Original Brooklyn has been widely praised for his role in a sandy thriller “wire,” where he plays gay armed robbers who specialize in erading drug dealers.
This series became one of the most popular shows on television and ran through five seasons from 2002 to 2008.
Williams was also famous for the role of Albert ‘Chalky’ White in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire.” He received many emmy nominations for his work, including the turn in the series “Lovecraft State,” ahead of the 2021 ceremony which will take place under two weeks.
Williams was also nominated for his work to play the husband of Blues Singer Bessie Smith in the 2015 film “Bessie.” He was also a candidate for 2016 “night” and for “when they saw us” in 2019, about a group of young black men who were wrongly accused of rape in the central park in the 1980s.
“While the world realizes his extraordinary talent as an artist, we know Michael as a loved beloved friend by all who have the privilege of working with him,” HBO said in a statement.
There is no official cause of death given, but some US media quoted the source of law enforcement say they suspect the possibility of overdose of drugs.
Williams had spoken openly from his past struggle with drug addiction, and had told us the media that he had spent a lot of his income from “wire” on narcotics.
NYPD told AFP the cause of death will be determined by medical examiners.
News of Williams’s death met with sadness among fans, many of them considered them one of the most talented actors of their generation.
David Simon, former Baltimore crime reporter who wrote the show, said on Twitter that he was “too broken now to say everything he should have said.” “Michael is a good man and rare talent and on our way together he always deserves the best words.
And today the words will not come.” Tray Chaney, who played a drug dealer on the show, said he was “destroyed.” “There are no words.
I love you bro.
Rip to Legend Michael K Williams aka one of the dopest actors / brothers in the world,” he said on Twitter.
Stephen King’s best-selling horror writer tweeted: “Terrible, sad, and hard to believe to think we have lost Michael K Williams who are fantastic at the age of 54 years.” Williams’s role as Omar Little was enhanced by the scar scar he said he received during the New York Street match on his 25th birthday night, when a man slashed him with a razor.
He told the NPR in an interview, a clear scar really helped advance his career, when he rode from a backup dancer in a music video for stars like Madonna and George Michael to get the role of talking to rough characters in the drama.
Rest on his first big screen came when Rapper Tupac Shakur was filming a film in New York and throwing Williams as his younger brother after seeing a polaroid photo about him.
He was then thrown as a drug dealer in Martin Scorsese “brought the dead,” before landing the role that will make his career in “wire,” written by Simon and Detective Ed Burns.
Other film loans include “! 2 years slave,” “Road” and “go baby away.”
