Bhavnagar: A woman was seriously injured after she was burnt allegedly by one of her neighbors who was angry with the similarity between her puppy and wife’s nickname of one of the attackers in Gujarat, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in Palitana in the Bhavnagar district on Monday afternoon.
Victims, Neetaben Sarvaiya (35), suffered severe burns.
He was currently undergoing treatment at a government hospital in Bhavnagar, a Palitana City Police Official official said.
Sarvaiya was at his home with his youngest son at the time of the incident.
Her husband and two children came out, he said.
Neighbors Sarvaiya Surabhai Bharwad and the other five illuminated their homes on Monday afternoon.
They objected to Sarvaiya named the puppy as “Sonu”, which was the nickname of Bharwad’s wife, according to fire.
Bharwad accused Sarvaiya deliberately naming a puppy after his wife, police said.
In his statement to the police, Sarvaiya said that Bharwad harassed him but he tried to avoid it and others.
When he entered the kitchen, three people followed him.
One of them poured kerosene from the container in Sarvaiya and burned it lit a matchstick, police said.
Sarvaiya raised the alarm, heard some neighbors rushed to his house.
At the same time, her husband also arrived.
They put out the fire using her husband’s coat.
The woman suffered severe burns, the official said.
According to the police, the Sarvaiya family and the attacker had a fight in the past on the problem of water supply.
However, the material was resolved peacefully.
The police registered fir against six people under various parts of the Indian criminal code for murder attempts, homes that were in without permission, insults, etc.
No one was arrested so far, police said.
