Bengaluru: A female passenger took Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to the Consumer Court after the bus he rose for Tumaku from Bengaluru did not stop at the stop of his choice and dropped him 400 meters.
The utility has been ordered to pay compensation of Rs 8,010 for inconvenience caused.
On the morning of October 24, 2018, Vijaya Bai L, 33, a resident of Urdigere Hobli in Tumakuru, took the KSRTC bus from Bengaluru to Tumakuru to visit his sister’s residence.
Despite telling the conductor and the driver that he wanted to go down at the HMT bus stop in Tumakuru, the driver failed to stop the vehicle.
After the request by Vijaya, the bus slowed down and stopped 400 meters from that place.
About down, he found the area was battered and he couldn’t cross across the street.
He was forced to take two autorickshaw by paying Rs 10 and Rs 50, to achieve his destination.
After an unpleasant experience, Vijaya called the KSRTC Helpline to be relieved but was in vain.
Finally, he approached the Tumakuru district consumer dispute conducting complaints to complaints against KSRTC for lack of service.
The Consumer Court on July 29, 2019 ordered the Tumakuru KSRTC division controller to return RS 10 to Vijaya’s automatic rates and 10,000 Rs payment compensation and 5,000 rs litigation fees along with interest.
However, the KSRTC filed an appeal against the verdict before Karnataka Consumer Disputes Consumer Negotiations in Bengaluru and Litigation began.
Corporate lawyers say Bus Vijaya travels is a non-stop passenger with a limited stop and, therefore, the request that he is allowed to get off the vehicle in the middle is unfair.
But the judges in the State Forum stated that the KSRTC did not provide the driver’s driver version and should be noted that the conductor had issued a ticket for the HMT bus stop to Vijaya Bai.
In addition, without considering female passengers, the driver and conductor dropped it in the middle of the road and he had trouble finding his way to his destination.
However, given the views of the KSRTC, the judges in the verdict on July 28, 2021, reduced the amount of compensation to RS 5,000 and the number of litigation became Rs 3,000, but ordered that Rs 10 must be paid to female passengers in 60 days orders.
