Ilu my in-laws are one of the first women’s entrepreneurs who run the motel themselves.
Thus, his relatives were not surprised when Dipti Vaid Dedhiya created a recent history by becoming the first female city court judge in South Asian descent with his appointment to the Edison City Court.
“In the past, very few recognition of our own community, let alone community achievement,” said Dedhiya to Ti.
“Today, being the first Indian woman appointed as city judges in one of the most diverse new cities, not only recognized but celebrated.” Dedhiya added: “My hope and vision is that our society will continue to encourage female minority leaders in the future, as they have done for me in this historic role.” The story of Noighestri Dedhiya crosses various parts of Gujarat and the world.
His grandparents live in Bhayavadar and Mangrol.
His grandfather shifted to Kenya.
The family then moved to London.
On his mother’s side, his grandparents went to Aden and returned to Mumbai.
His parents married in London and shifted to the US – first to New York and then to New Jersey.
His mother still runs his business and his father is an embryology.
“We speak Gujarati at home and celebrate all the festivals.
It’s important for my parents that we remember our roots,” said Dedhiya.
“We always hold a big celebration Diwali, attending the Garaba, playing Holi in our temple, and participating in the puash at home.” Dedhiya continued by saying: “Realizing the importance of maintaining our culture abroad, we now do the same with our children.” Edison last year chose Sam Joshi, someone with Gujarati’s root, as mayor.
Dedhiya ventured law after getting a degree in business.
Internship at a law firm sparked his interest in the field.
Also, his parents respect the profession.
“When many young young people young generation see how difficult our parents work to get the best education and experience offered by this country, it is a natural desire to want to make them proud,” he said.
