New Delhi: The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has been holding hands with private companies and non-governmental organizations to train women from the informal sector in Gujarat such as salt pan so they can work in the modern clean energy industry.
This step will see PAN salt workers from Rann Kutch trained as solar panels and solar pump technicians as part of an effort to transition clean Indian energy.
The success of the training program will be replicated in other parts of the country in time.
The multi-branch program will help LEAPFROG workforce from traditional energy sources to the renewable and clean energy sector, and create new livelihood opportunities for them.
Initially, 1,000 women would be trained as solar panels and solar pump technicians in all female association training centers (rentals) and private energy companies to renew power facilities in Gujarat.
Technical training will be provided by other NGOs, Indian electronic sector skills (ECCI).
“This program will not only help create alternative livelihoods for our lease sisters and help reduce the environmental challenges that exist today in the practice of energy use today in the traditional sector such as salt production, but also helps achieve a fair transition to environmental sustainability,” said Reema Nanavaty from rent.
He added, “We hope to replicate this program throughout other regions of the country with support from organizations such as updating strength and unep.” UNEP said this plan aims to expand the initiative over the next few years and see the potential to unlock global climate funds for development, green skills, green jobs, and environmentally friendly entrepreneurial activities.
“This project will also support efforts to achieve several sustainable development goals, including gender equality, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth and climate action,” said UNEP in a statement.
Power Renew will also see giving employment opportunities to women in collaboration with other renewable energy companies in Gujarat.
