Hyderabad: The art form of centuries of Kalamkari will be on display along Rajpath, on the occasion of the Republican Day, thanks to an artist from Chittoor – R Sudheer.
Srigalahati residents, Sudheer is one of the big 500 ponds of artists invited from all over India to paint a 750 meter long roll which will be exhibited in the Republic Day on January 26.
Another artist from Odisha, Punjab, which created Madhubani, Pattachitra, Talapra Chitra, Manjusha, and Patu artwork on the 750 meter-long scroll.
“I am among the Teams of 10 members chosen through the South-Central Zone Cultural (SCZCC), Nagpur, to do Kalam’s hand painting on scroll.
Our paintings will decorate the background during the Republican Day Parade,” said the 34-year-old artist from Andhra Pradesh which is currently in Delhi.
“I feel very proud and honored to be part of this group and get the opportunity to share the work of Kalamkari with other countries.
We have followed the ancient style of hand painting, carried out on cotton or silk with an acid pen using natural dyes,” added Sudheeer.
Sharing highlights about art forms, Sudheer said that it involves 23 staining steps, bleaching, hand painting, block printing, starch, cleaning and more.
“The motives drawn in the span of Kalamkari from flowers, peacock, and paisley to the divine character of Hindu epics such as Mahabharata and Ramayana.
At present, this art is mainly done in Sarees,” Sudheeer added.
