Washington DC: The World Bank stopped all financial assistance for projects to Afghanistan after the Taliban assuming power in the country, the World Bank spokesman said Wednesday.
“We have quit expenditures in our operations in Afghanistan and we are very monitoring and assessing the situation in line with our internal policies and procedures.
As we did, we will continue to consult closely with international community and development partners,” our spokesman said) The world told CNBC broadcasters.
In-depth concerns were also expressed by the organization in connection with “the impact on the prospects of state development, especially for women.” The World Bank has invested USD 5.3 billion for development projects in the country, according to the organizational website.
This step came shortly after the International Monetary Fund began blocking Afghan access to all its resources.
These include USD 440 million worth of special image rights (SDR) where Afghanistan has the right to total SDR worth USD 650 billion, funds allocated on Monday for its members in an effort to increase post-pandemic recovery.
