Bengaluru: Basavaraj Prakash, 32, an alleged Burglar of the interstate habit, was recently arrested by Bengaluru police from Hyderabad.
The police were hunting for prakash for months, but he seemed to have disappeared.
Prakash then admitted to the police that he was hiding in Hyderabad since March and would rather not enter the houses during April and maybe because of a pandemic-induced lock.
Like Prakash, most of the thieves took a break from their evil activities during April and May this year, data with Karnataka police confirmed.
Dip in theft throughout the sharpest state in May.
This month saw less than half the incident was reported in January.
The police record showed 195 theft was reported in Karnataka in May (theft of days – 15 cases and night theft – 180 cases).
This was a sharp decline of 411 cases of theft (71 days and 340 nights) reported in January.
There were 393 theft (69 days and 324 nights) in February, 385 cases (94 days and 291 nights) in March and 283 (57 days and 226 nights) in April.
Total Lockdown in May, the police pointed.
R Hitendra, additional director general of the police, told TII that because people were locked up in their homes during locking, home solving cases declined.
“Compared to normal days, most of the houses were not locked when the second wave went berserk,” he said, adding “not only home robbery, the case of stealing sand in the district was also down.” An officer said the inaclusion of public transportation and restrictions using private vehicles during locking means getaways would be a problem for thieves.
“In normal times, many houses remain locked in April and maybe because of holidays and other reasons,” the officer said.
“However, the pandemic has changed many things.
The burglar habit uses public transportation such as buses and trains to escape after committing crimes.
In the case of Prakash, he refrained from driving to the city and other parts of the country because of locking norms.”
