Nagpur: rampant theft from the cover of stormwater channels in various parts of the city has been the cause of concern for people and citizenship administration.
It also places pedestrians and risky riders.
At least three storm drain covers were stolen from the busy mountain road being conscious on Wednesday night.
A few days earlier, another cover of the 28-D Prabhag in the South Nagpur of the former Chairman of the Vijay Zalke stand committee was stolen.
“Stealing the covers made of iron bars and even RCC materials have been rampant,” said Commissioner of Radhakrishnan B, added that the Civic body would seek the help of the city police to arrest thieves.
CCTV cameras installed across the city can be useful for tracking them, he said.
The Department of Public Works alleged alleged involvement of several scrap dealers in theft.
“The stolen lid is worth RS15,000,” he said.
Toi saw a lost got hole on the road.
Locals said the cover was opened by NMC to clean the stormwater network.
Then, they realized that it was a job from several criminals.
Naresh Jain, a local resident, claimed that he had taken care of stones in one of the open storm water holes while the other two were covered with tree branches, which were then grazed by wild livestock.
Toi then told Radhakrishnan, who asked PWD officials to cover the same thing without delay.
A PWD official said the thief might use an iron bar to open the blanket hinge.
“If not, this is not an easy task to remove this iron-made cover,” he said.
Zalke also claims that stealing the Manhole cover has increased in the past.
He said recently, the got hole cover with a weight of about 25kg was stolen from Dhanwantari Nagar in the South Nagpur.
The whole theft of how two people used two-wheeled vehicles to lift the Manhole cover recorded on CCTV cameras.
Corporate Congress from Nasta Nagpur Manoj Sangole claims that there is a gang involved in theft.
According to him, even the RCC structure includes having an iron rod inside the cement frame is also stolen often from the stormwater network and sewerage.
Radhakrishnan said even though the case had increased, Civic’s body had not filed a police complaint.
“But now we will approach them to catch criminals,” he added.
