Ahmedabad: If you are determined to go green Dussehra by buying an electric vehicle, you might have to revoke the dream for now.
This city has not operated the public filling station.
The recent announcement of vehicle tax transfers for private electric vehicles is practically not feasible if only a handful of charging stations serving the idea.
For now, AMC is still installing a public filling station in three places – Multi-level parking Navrangpura, Kankaria Kids City and Kankaria Gate Number 2.
The Civic body has received a budget from the Government Government for this purpose.
The center has gave sanctions as many as 278 electric vehicle charging stations in three Gujarat cities including Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Gandhinagar under the adoption and manufacturing of hybrid and electrical vehicles, faster phase II (FAME2) phase.
Most of this approved EV charging station cannot be operational for the public.
While declaring Gujarat 2021 electric vehicle policy in June this year, the Chief of Gujarat Vijay Kupani Minister has announced a capital subsidy of 25% to 10 lakh Rs to regulate this charging station.
However, there is no one station that appears in the city.
The AMC electricity department has found many sites in the city almost a year ago but work has not started.
In March this year, Prakash Javdekar, Minister of Union Industry and Public Business, has provided a list of charging stations established in the country under Fame2.
The list mentions that a total of 386 charging stations have appeared under Fame2.
Rajasthan has established 94 charging stations, and small countries such as Jharkhand have established 24 EV charging stations.
The list did not mention Gujarat.
“We will soon operate the EV charging station,” AMC official said.
According to experts, providing subsidies and waving taxes for EV vehicles there will be no difference if there is no infrastructure for charging.
“To transfer vehicle technology, supporting infrastructure is very important.
The EV charging station must be part of the road design itself.
Pune has changed their street design guides to enter the same.
Ahmedabad must follow such practice,” said Rutul Joshi, Associate Professor, Cept University.
Joshi is an urban transportation expert.
