PANAJI: In the u-major on the Major floor, Minister of Health Goa Vishwajit Rane, who first announced that many covid-19 patients were dying in the country because of oxygen disorders in the Premier Hospital Medical Hospital (GMC) during the second wave, on the day Friday denied death related to lack of oxygen.
In the response written in the Assembly, Rane said: “Not at the time (no) oxygen supply in GMC is out of stock, and thus, no deaths that have been reported (already) are caused by non-supply of oxygen.” Toi has reported that at least 83 People allegedly died of oxygen-related problems between May 11 and May 15 while undergoing treatment for Covid at GMC.
On May 11, at the peak of the second wave of Covid, Rane had made an announcement that 26 Covid patients had died between 2am and 6 in the morning due to lack of oxygen in the GMC and asked the Bombay High Court to investigate GMC on GMC.
Rane’s statement on May 11 came on the day when Goa recorded the death of 75 covid, tally one day highest.
“On Monday (May 10), our needs are around 1,200 cylinders, but we receive 400 cylinders.
The hospital has faced the lack of oxygen supply,” said Minister of Health.
CM Pramod Sawant, who had visited Ward Covid on May 11, also hinted that there was a lack of oxygen.
But on Friday, in a written reply for three questions, Rane did not only deny that there were deaths related to oxygen but went further and praised the government.
“During a sudden surge in active cases in the second week of May, the demand for oxygen suddenly appeared.
But because of the extra effort entered by the government, additional oxygen is available and there is no time, there is no government hospital in the state of supply Oxygen.
Therefore, there is no death because the lack of oxygen supplies has been reported in a government hospital in the state to date, “he said.
