Kolkata: The Central Investigation Bureau on Monday told the Calcutta High Court that there was no evidence in 21 rape cases and rape mentioned by the national human rights commission team in his report on alleged violence after the poll in Bengal.
The NHRC report to Calcutta HC mentions 64 rape and rape incidents.
The CBI said it has registered 39 cases and investigated four others but sent back 21 cases to the Western Bengal Police Special Investigation Team to want evidence.
The CBI said it had also sent back two “murder cases” to the state probe team to want evidence.
The Calcutta High Court on August 19 ordered the CBI investigation monitored by the court to be the alleged murder case, rape and tried rape during the poll in Bengal and established a special investigation team under the supervision of a retired judge to investigate other criminal cases.

The five judges, led by former Head of Judge Rajesh Bindal, also directed NHRC, the state government and all commissions or other committees who had received complaints to submit all records relating to the murder and crime cases against the CBI.
The Bengali government on September 1 moved the Supreme Court to challenge HC’s command.
Allegations of rape and murder emerged after the Bengal assembly poll was concluded with the results stated on May 2.
