There is no first dose of covaxin given on government sites since June-end

Gurgaon: The government session site in the city has not been able to manage every covaxin first dose until July as the supply of Bharat Biotech vaccine remains thin.
The last time someone received Covaxin’s first shot was June 30.
The second dose of Covaxin must be given within four to six weeks from the first Jab.
The Ministry of Health must be a vaccine ration to ensure those who get the first dose get a second dose on time.
A total of 52,213 people who received the first shot from Covaxin on the site of the government session in June were scheduled for their second dose in July.
So far this month, only 29,369 from this recipient has received the second Covaxin Jab, which means 22,844 others have not finished their doses.
Some private hospitals in the city give the second dose of Covaxin, but this is not free.
In July, around 8,000 people received the first dose of Covaxin while nearly 2,000 people got a second shot.
Compared to June, Covaxin Haryana’s shares, and hence Gurgaon too, have dropped this month.
While the country has received 3.25 lakh doses of Covaxin in June, the supply dropped to 1.64 lakh in July.
Gurgaon, who has received 1.1 lakh doses of Covaxin last month, got 43,000 doses of this month.
After managing a shot to more than 29,000 people, the city is now abandoned with a little more than 13,600 doses of covaxin.
This has caused some concern among the recipients of Covaxin.
Ankita Soni, a resident of sector 48 due to the second shot, ruled out going to a private hospital.
“I have heard about vaccination problems in the centers.
But walk-in on the government site is complicated because there is no guarantee that someone can get a slot,” he said.
The vaccination rate has been overall slow due to lack of vaccines.
“We did not provide the first dose of Covaxin this month because there were more than 22,000 people because of their second dose.
We will continue the first slot after we are inoculating all that must be scheduled for the second jab,” said Dr.
Virender Yadav, Chief Medical Officer, Gurgaon.
Dr.
Virender Ahlawat, the state immunization officer, said beforehand, preferences have been given to people who need to get the second dose.
“Some districts have stopped the first dose and only manages the second dose,” he said, adding that they expected a smooth supply in mid-August.
