There is no more amendment to the citizenship law to include more minorities: Center tells Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: The government on Wednesday said there was no further amendment to the citizenship law being considered to include other minorities under its purview.
People who meet the requirements can apply for citizenship under the citizenship amendment law (CAA), 2019 after the rules based on the law are notified, he stated as the answer to the question at Rajya Sabha.
In queries that are looking for the details of the association and religionwise of the number of accepted citizenship applications, delayed and rejected under the CAA imposed in 2019, the Minister of State for Nityanand Rai’s house clarified that the rules under the CAA have not been borne and that the committee under Lok Sabha and Rajya’s legislation Sabha has been asked to give up to 09.01.2022 for this.
“People who meet the requirements covered by the Amendment Act can submit an application for citizenship after the right rules are notified by the central government,” he said.
According to the data, RAI said in return on other questions, 4,046 applications were waiting with the state and 10 governments with the central government of 30-07-2021 in connection with applicants belonging to the Hindu community in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
Most of these applications are waiting in Rajasthan (1541), followed by Maharashtra (849), Gujarat (555), Madhya Pradesh (490), Chhattisgarh (268) and Delhi (123).
The Minister also told the elders that a total of 4171 foreigners were given Indian citizenship in the last five years between 2016 and 2020, in which 638 were made by residents in 2020, 986 in 2017, 814 in 2017 and 1105 in 2016.
The maximum number of foreigners given by Indian citizenship is in Gujarat (1089), followed by Rajasthan (535) and Madhya Pradesh (535).
Citizenship applications are processed under the provisions of the citizenship law, 1955 read with nationality regulations, 2009, RAI said as an answer to a separate question at Rajya Sabha.
In another question about giving a visa to the Pakistani family to travel to India or arrange their daughter’s marriage, Rai said the visa was given based on the rules and guidelines.
As of July 25 this year, 732 visa applications have been received from Pakistani citizens and 286 visas provided, which includes people traveling to India for social purposes including marriage, Rai said.
