Gurugram: Six days after opening the trial, the official launch date of the U-Turn Underpass Mall in Delhi-Gurugram Expressway has not been decided.
Completion of drainage work and the supply of power supply to underpass is still delayed.
Without these two tasks, the structure cannot be opened for commuters, officials from the National Highway Authority (NHAI) said.
NHAI has missed several deadlines, including October 15 that was announced by the Minister of Transportation Union Nitin Gadkari, to launch the project.
“Underpass operates smoothly at that time open for commuters.
However, there are some work left, so we close the underpass from time to time.
One of them is a drainage job.
We are working on several drain connections.
For example, there may be several areas From which water does not drain or more work is needed.
We are investigating all that, “said Nhai officials.
As a result, access to underpasses has been erratic for commuting, although it is opened for traffic based on trials from Sunday, with a structure closed for long duration repeatedly.
Only the day after being opened, the underpass was closed for most of Monday, with officials said this was a preventative measure in the light of the city that experienced rainfall and the underpass drainage system still did not fully operate.
“We close the underpass as a precaution because the chances of water moves in it.
The work is underway on the drainage system and we hope it will be completed in this month,” the official said.
However, a greater problem now is the lack of electrical connections for underpasses, officials said.
At present it is illuminated using a set of diesel generators (DG).
Until the power supply is provided, underpasses cannot be officially opened for commuting, they said.
“We have written to Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) regarding electrical connections.
Initially there were several problems with the document, and then they requested an approval letter.
The problem was taken by senior officials and documents received,” Nhai official said.
“DHBVN officials have assured us that an electrical connection will be given within a week.
The structure cannot be opened without it.
The set is good for backup if there is a power supply problem, but we cannot open underpasses depending on them for electricity,” Add other officials.
Working on underpasses has begun in January 2019.
Nhai initially set a deadline for 18 months for project completion.
