There is no scientific evidence in the country that underlines the need for a dose of Covid-19 Booster: Dr. Samiran Panda ICMR

New Delhi: Many experts recommend a booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in India, especially for those who have comorbidity or health workers because they have received both doses.
But according to government sources, this center now focuses on the maximum coverage of full vaccination under the ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ program.
Dr.
Samiran Panda, who is the head of the epidemiological division and infectious disease in the Indian Medical Research Board (ICMR) said that currently scientific evidence from within the country does not underline the demand for the booster dose.
Speaking to Ani, Dr.
Panda said, “The Ministry of Health is guided by scientific evidence and is also suggested by NTagi.
This is an advisory body and considered by the Ministry and each department to develop policies.
So, policy formulation and decisions are based on policy on scientific evidence .
Currently, the scientific evidence of the interior did not underline the need for a booster dose.
consideration of public health is the priority right now.
“” If you ask me, the need of the hour is to achieve coverage of 80 percent or more among individuals with two doses of the vaccine.
reaching more Of the 80 percent of individuals who qualify are public health priorities now, “he said.
He also stressed the focus on vaccination programs than at the booster dose.
“Discussing the booster dose does not make sense because there are people you know, in doubt to advance for the second day thinking so, if we discuss the booster to return to us actually leave the program halfway,” he added.
Dr.
Tamorish Kole, the President of the Asian community for emergency treatment (ASEM), said, “When we talk about the third dose, we must prioritize with low immune levels, compromised immunity such as cancer patients and patients who receive transplant organs or give them a booster dose Moreover In the past, I would urge the government to prioritize frontline workers to give the third dose.
