Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to stop issuing a certificate of registration of physical and paper smart cards (RC) from January 1 next year.
“Under the 5T mandate (transparency, technology, teamwork, time and transformation) of the state government, we will get rid of the publication of DL smart cards and RC paper from January 1 will ensure better service delivery to the public and eliminate delays in getting DL and RC by post, “said Trade of State and Transportation Secretary of Madan Sudan Padhi.
As per government notification, a special web portal is being developed to allow people to download DL documents and RC according to their convenience.
At present, someone pays around Rs 240 towards shipping and shipping smart card Post and around Rs 200 for RC books.
The private body, involved by the government in July 2006 to supply DLS smart cards, collect costs from applicants and facilitate the sending of cards to their homes.
“From January 1, people can save their DLS detail molds and RC in their vehicles for all kinds of official references and show them to the police during the enforcement of traffic rules.
This new process aims to reduce the time and costs for citizens,” Padhi said .
The source says the existing smart card, which has been embedded with a microprocessor chip, is designed to feed details of violations of traffic related traffic.
The need for chips-based DL is no more felt as a police enforcement wing and the Regional Transportation Office (RTO) has used the e-Challan engine, which can store antecedents of violators.
“People, who do not understand technology or do not have access to the internet, can approach their Jana Seva Kendras nearby to get a copy of DL and RC.
We also plan to provide PDF format to people, who can use data for card making Small plastic containing detailed DLS and RCS them, “said another transportation official.
