Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to stop issuing Smart Scerd Smart Cards (DL) and a paper-based vehicle registration certificate (RC) from January 1, 2022.
About 15 years ago, DL smart card replaced the old Pocket Diary Diary form of paper license.
“The move has been taken under the MAUTAT 5T (transparency, technology, teamwork, time and transformation) of the state government.
This will ensure better service administration to the public and eliminate delays in getting DL and RC by posting,” Commerce State and Transportation Secretary Madan Sudan Padhi said.
According to government notification, the web portal is being developed to allow people to download DL and RC documents.
At present, one must pay Rs 240 for shipping costs and delivery of DL smart cards and around Rs 200 for RC books.
Private agencies, involved by the government in July 2006 to supply DLS smart cards, collect costs from applicants and facilitate the sending of cards to their homes.
“From January 1, people can save their DLS and RC molds in their vehicles for all kinds of official references and show them to the police during the enforcement of traffic regulations.
This new process aims to reduce the time and cost of citizens,” Padhi said.
The source says the existing smart card, which has been embedded with a microprocessor chip, is designed to feed details of violations of traffic related traffic.
DL-based chip requirements are no more felt as a police enforcement wing and regional transportation offices have used the e-Challan engine, which can store antecedents of violators.
People, who do not have access to the internet, can approach their Jana Seva Kendras nearby to get a copy of DL and RC.
