Chennai: The Ministry of Health Tamil Nadu has announced that Run Mary’s College students will then be an ambassador for Covid-19 vaccination in Chennai.
With a government photo identity card, nearly 5,500 students from these colleges will meet people living in their neighborhood and encourage them to take vaccinations, Minister of Health MA Subramanian said here on Wednesday.
College conducts awareness programs about the need for vaccination and behavior that matches Covid such as wearing a mask, social distance and hand hygiene through street drama.
Subramanian, who witnessed the path of playing with interest, asked students whether they would spend half an hour a day to spread awareness among other citizens.
When they cheered, he announced that the state would give them a photo identity card on weekends.
“Last week, we have made mandatory vaccination for students over 18 years.
Today, this college has held a vaccination camp on campus,” he said.
According to college administration, from 5,500 students on rolls, 3,800 of them were fully vaccinated.
While 800 has taken their first dose, 900 has not taken a vaccine.
“At the end of this week, this college will have 100% coverage for the first dose.
That is due to the second dose will also complete the course,” Subramanian said.
