Thiruvananthapuram: Dr.
S Unnikrishnan Nair has been appointed as the new Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC).
He will replace S somandush, who has taken over as chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
Unnikrishnan Nair is currently Director of the Human Delivery Center.
He will continue to hold back this fee too.
Original Kothanallloor, Kottayam, Unnikrishnan Nair is B.Tech (Mechanical Engg) from Kerala University.
He also acquired M.e (Aerospace Engg) from IISC, Bangalore and was a PhD holder from IIT Madras, Chennai.
He joined VSC in 1985 and has held many important positions in a well-known career, including the first project director, a human spacecraft project, deputy director, VSSC (structure) and program director, advanced space transportation system.
He was the Secretary of the two Iaa study group members and had led the delegation to Russia for Indian-Russian space cooperation in the Human Space Flight Program, which resulted in signing contracts in the main fields.
He has won many awards and awards, including the advantage of the ISRO team for contributions to the experiment of spacecraft capsules in 2007, the ISRO Excellence award as the team leader for treatment in 2014, individual merit iso award in 2014 for the development of Mission Technology, ISRO Excellence Award as team leader for the escape crew pad abort in 2018 and a Honorary Doctoral degree from Sathyabama University in 2019 for human space contributions.
His wife Jaya G Nair is a former VSSC computer engineer.
He has two daughters, Aishwarya Nair, an engineer and Nair Chaite, a degree student.
