Thiruvananthapuram: More than a decade after City Corporation launched a housing scheme under basic services to Urban Poor (BSUP) in Poonkulam, Civic’s body plans to revive the project.
It has decided to involve the External Agent of College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram to conduct an audit of stability in construction that has not been running since 2010.
The Civic Agency has signed an agreement with the Nirmithi Kendra accredited body in 2008 for Rs 2.96 Crore.
The project includes 120 houses in six blocks along with basic facilities for the community.
In 2009, the corporation took Rs 39.32 lakh in advance.
Working to Lintel on the first three block floor, and the second block base beam was complete.
The technique’s wing has communicated that the structure carried out almost a decade ago must be certified for stability if the work needs to be continued.
While the project was originally scheduled to be completed at Rs 2 Crore, the costs were revised to RS 9 Crore in 2014.
The costs will increase, and the corporation has decided to collect the amount needed for the stability certification of the agency entrusted construction in 2008.

The project aims to supply services and basic facilities that are integrated and provided for housing, roads, water supply, street lights, solid waste management and argoWadis.
Around Rs 1.2 lakh is given for houses with two rooms, kitchens, and toilets range from 30 sq m to 60 sq m base area with 12% recipient contribution.
The project with a total estimate of RS 208 Crore is planned to be implemented in four phases.
While 23 colonies with new apartments must be built in various wards according to plan, in 2015 when the deadline is over, even less than half the target has been borne.
The BSUP scheme can only be implemented partially in five colonies of Rajaji Nagar, Karadom, Kannammoola, Kalladimukham and Poonkulam until 2015.
From 28 blocks in Karadom Colony, 12 blocks were dropped.
Seven blocks have been completed, and the corporation must request permission to complete the ongoing work in nine blocks.
Colony construction in 13 coastal wards must also be dropped.
In Kannamoola, seven blocks from a total of 23 blocks have been completed in 2015, and no further construction was initiated.
City Corporation faces a dilemma in Poonkulam since construction has reached the stage where the building does not have a roof.
Like projects intended for housing colonies in Thycaud and Kadakamally, City Corporation can not even complete the list of beneficiaries.
At Rajiv Nagar Colony, 22 blocks from a total of 30 blocks are completed in 2015 and no work will begin in the remaining blocks.
