Thiruvananthapuram: Rustic Police Chief SP Divya V Gopinath will visit the tribal settlement colony, below the limit of the Paloda police station, on Monday where a series of suicides by young girls were reported recently.
He will be accompanied by tribal development officers and senior officers from the Excise Ministry.
Speaking to Toi, Rural SP said the purpose of his visit was to meet people, including families who died, and gathered more information about this problem.
Although the decision was taken to carry out mass events where people could increase their concerns and complaints before SP, the event was canceled after the Covid case increase.
The problem is related to five alleged suicide by young girls, most of them are under 18 years old, under the Paloda and the limits of the Vithura police station for the past two months.
In four cases, the police found that victims were sexually exploited.
The Excise Ministry Officer decided to overcome this problem after a parent of a victim accused that the mafia drug and liquor also played a role in suicide of their daughter.
They accused his girlfriend, who turned out to be a peddler marijuana, forced him to consume narcotics.
A day ago, the Minister of Health, Women and the development of Children Veena George also intervened in this issue and directed the secretary of the Principal of the Women and the development of children to investigate and submit the earliest report.
Officer Station House Inspector CK Manoj said three suicides were reported under his stations in the last two months.
“Even before this death was reported, we have launched a series of conscious camps in tribal settlements regarding the use of safe technology such as smartphones and social media, since children began to use the telephone to attend online classes.
Such programs are still done without failing,” he said.
