An application called Water Resistance Tester, developed by Ray W, claims to tell you whether your smartphone’s waterproof sealing is intact or not.
The application description page claims to test the waterproof seal IP67 / IP68 smartphone using the most widely achieved barometric pressure sensor of smartphones.
The same thing has been explained by Ray W developers on the official Reddit account.
The developer has also mentioned that two members of his community have confirmed that this application methodology is the same as the official methodology used by Samsung service technicians.
For those who do not know, the barometer sensor in smartphones helps the GPS chip key faster by determining the vertical location.
However, Wikipedia described it as an instrument to measure atmospheric pressure.
This application seems to use the last one for this test.
To test the application, we take our Galaxy S21 smartphone which is indeed a smartphone and dustproof IP68.
We imply two test cases here – one with a SIM card slot and one after removing the SIM card slot.
When you delete the SIM card, the Galaxy S21 warns users that waterproof capabilities from smartphones will be compromised and protect against water damage, ensuring that the SIM card tray is sealed strongly.
In the first case, this application marks a smartphone as waterproof, while after removing the SIM card tray is said ‘your cellphone doesn’t seem to be waterproof.
“We also run this application at the Rog Phone 5, which doesn’t seem to have a barometer sensor and a quick application to identify that it is a non-sensor phone needed for the test.
So far the application seems accurate.
However, it still only claims and it’s an idea.
It’s good to keep a smartphone, even if they have IP67 or IP68 values, away from the water to avoid damage.
