Imagine the level of comfort when portable handheld devices can run a full MacOS operating system.
The complete PC that you bring in your pocket and use whenever you need it.
A YouTuber named Iketsj or Ike T Sanglay Jr.
has developed a portable DIY handheld hand handheld that runs the MacOS Big Sur operating system.
It has got a small screen compared to a very small laptop and a QWERTY keyboard with navigation keys.
In addition, this device also has a feature that is mostly owned by modern MacBook – type USB-A port and there are three of them on DIY devices to connect additional keyboards and peripherals.
Spec-wise, handheld devices are also feasible.
It has 8GB RAM, Intel Core M3 processor, 240GB SATA SSD with Big Sur installed on it and Arduino Leonardo microcontroller board.
YouTuber has used 3D printing chassis.
This is the full video.
In the video, Iketsj has made the entire PC handheld from the beginning of placing boards and cables to unite the entire device.
YouTuber also booted MacOS Big Sur after he finished with the DIY process.
He then connects the external keyboard to show a device that functions for a short period of time.
YouTuber also stated that this handheld PC might not be practical and he has made this for himself.
But, the question is how practically this fully functional device runs a full laptop or can the desktop operating system? They may not be practical as a laptop or computer.
Also, the compact form factor will make it difficult to use using small input options on the device.
They also cannot replace the modern smartphones provided they are now more capable and efficient than before.
They offer most functionality such as PCs in small form factors and are designed specifically for small touch displays.
Also, the overall cost of making them turned out to be almost the same or more than M1 MacBook Air, which YouTuber also admitted in the video, it could be a big factor for most people.
