Ghaziabad: Between January 1 and 31 July this year, a woman on average becomes a victim every day for cyber crime in the city.
According to official data, a total of 219 cases have been reported under the IT Law in 2021 so far, a 13% increase from last year.
These numbers were 193 and 168 each during the same period in 2020 and 2019.
A senior police officer said that Cybercrime cases were at their peak during locking in 2020 and most cases were submitted under unpleasant content , Morphed photos and hacks social media accounts.
From April to July 2020, more than 150 cases were submitted, especially in the city area.
During the locking period in 2021, 110 cases were submitted under the IT Law and most complaints were filed online.
A senior officer said this year, 50 people had been arrested under the IT Law.
On Friday night, a 19-year-old young man was arrested by police Sahibabad for allegedly extorting women after hacking their social media accounts.
Allegations were identified as Mohammad Shaad, Bahraich residents.

The police also found two bank accounts where he had taken Rs 8 lakh from the victims.
Talking about the modus operandi, the police said the defendant used to send a ‘www.mtqotes.com’ link to the victim ID.
When the victim opened a link, the defendant received access to a social media account.

On August 1, Cyberpolice of Ghaziabad arrested a 22-year-old young man for allegedly harassing bankers in Indirapuram.
The man, who used to sell coconut water, has written the contact number on the wall in Indirapuram.
When he found a female customer, he began to harass him by sending ‘obscene videos’ and making video calls.
The police found more than 80 female contact numbers.
