Thompson-Herah leads Jamaican’s 100m women’s sweep

Tokyo: Elaine Thompson-Ghost Jamaica managed to defend the 100m Olympic crown on Saturday, storming victory with the second fastest time in history.
Thompson-Herhiah ran on the Tokyo Olympic Stadium at 10.61sec, with two champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took silver at 10.74 and Shericka Jackson Bronze at 10.76.
The sign of the Thompson-Herhi Olympic record winner matched the second fastest time in a history of 10.61 set by the deceased Florence Griffith-Joyner.
Only Griffith-Joyner, 1988 Olympic champion which remains the best 10.49 world record holder, has ever run faster.
The pre-racing hype has focused on Fraser-Pryce, which until Saturday has become the fastest woman in the world at this year’s distance.
The 34-year-old has bid to become the oldest sprinter to win the Olympic 100m title, and the first woman to win three individual tracks and gold fields.
But in a hotter in the empty Olympic stadium, it was the 2016 Rio Gold Medal Thompson who won the moment.
“I was really excited to go back and defend my title.
My chest was sick, I was very happy,” Thompson-Herhi said.
