Those trained in Patashalas can become Imam too: TN Govt

Chennai: Only candidates who formally complete training as ‘Archakas’ have been appointed as priests from various temples throughout the state, Tamil Nadu told Madras Madin.
Prospective candidates should complete formal training both at the country center managed to become a priest or in other Patashalas, the state said.
The government made a submission of the defense transferred by all India Adi Siiva Sivachariargal Seva Sang challenging the insistence of 38 temples in the state, that someone eligible to be appointed as a priest must complete the certification course in the ‘religion of Sastras’.
When the request came to hear on Monday, Tamil Nadu Advocate-General R shunmugasundam handed over that a similar request was delayed before the first bench in court and therefore the petition could now be marked with the request.
Record submission, the court directed the registry to continue the request to the first bench.
According to the applicant, such conditions insisted by 38 temples only to eliminate ‘Sivachariyars’ trained by religious teachers from a young age so as not to be appointed as Imam.
Noting that ‘sivachariyars’ is an independent Lot which is a separate denomination, the Petitioner said, “from Time Deroran, Sivacharyar was believed to be a slave to the god of Shiva and his main task was to do puja in SaiVite temples in accordance with Agamas and Vedas.
Sivachariyas, who is experienced in Agamas , Don’t undergo any certificate course.
Instead, they get Diksha from their sect teacher at a very early age and live a strict Vedic Education for a minimum period of three years, the association said.
