Tuticorin: Police Seithusillatur in Tuticorin District arrested three people because of stealing 1,840 kg of metal from the fence on the Archeology site of Adichanallur.
The 114 hectare site fence began in 2019 as directed by Madras High Court to protect the site.
The fence work was done at Rs 2 Crore.
A set of four metal grills measuring about five feet and a width of seven feet was first stolen by unknown people on August 16.
Two days later (on August 18), eight more grills were stolen from the fence.
Based on the complaint submitted by the Archaeological Survey of Indian officials, the police registered a case and was looking for the defendant.
To monitor CCTV footage, the police pay attention to two automatic items used for theft.
They traced the carrier of goods used in the second theft for Memo Dealer S arulraj, 34, from Ittamozhi.
The question revealed that R Udhayakumar, 31, from Mahadevankulam and T Subash, 23, from Idayankudi stole a grill and sold it to Arulraj.
The scrap dealer melts iron pieces and makes ten metal rods weighing 1,840 kg.
The police arrested the trio and confiscated metal rods and two operators of goods used for theft.
