New Delhi: Three sons drowned in the Yamuna River during the Idol Immersion at Ganpati Visarjan in the Wazirabad North Delhi region, police said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday night, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Vijay (16), Vivek (15) and Arjun (12), they said.
A senior police officer said the diver saved another teenager Vijay Rathore (17) and was rushed to the hospital.
Children come to the river of Sonia Vihar Pusta number 2 for Idol Immersion.
There is a thick flow on that side and they sink.
Divers tried to find a corpse after the incident, but dark and the operation had to be suspended, he said.
Rescue operations continued on Sundays but three bodies had not been found, the officer said.
Official API said the rescue effort was being carried out by NDRF, firefighting personnel and local divers.
The three boys are residents of Karagrave Ankur in Karawal Nagar, police said.
The families of children were told about the incident and they immediately reached the place, police said.
In another incident, a 29-year-old man died after he sank in a flooded area in Narela North Delhi.
The deceased has been identified as Salesh Mehto, a worker at DSIDC.
His body was pulled out and was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
The incident took place on Saturday in the Delhi State Industry and Infrastructure Corporation Ltd.
(DSIDC), they said.
Because of heavy rains, there are puddles in the area.
He accidentally fell into the sewer, police said.
Mehto is a native of Chapra in Bihar, they said.
