Three illegal colonies razed, 20 acres cleared amid protest

Gurgaon: Three illegal colonies were razed in a demolition drive carried out by the enforcement team of the department of town and country planning (DTCP) on Tuesday.
With this, around 20 acres of prime agricultural land in Jatoli and Bhondsi villages were cleared.
During the demolition drive — in which around 30 structures and 10 shops were razed and the road network was damaged — the developers of the illegal colonies tried to disrupt the drive.
However, teams of around 200 policemen controlled the protesters and the drive was carried out successfully.
District town planner (enforcement) RS Batth said the department had received several complaints regarding the colonies violating the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act.
In Jatoli, the enforcement team and 150 policemen with the help of two earthmovers razed two colonies, which were being developed on around 10 acres of agricultural land and was in their initial stages.
“During the drive, 30 under-construction structures were razed along with the road network,” said Batth, adding that 10 under-construction shops were also demolished as they were being built despite issuance of show-cause notices.
Another illegal colony being carved out in Bhondsi was also razed along with the road network with the help of two earthmovers in presence of 50 policemen.
“The offenders had laid out the road network and other structures.
One under-construction structure was also razed during the drive,” he added.
Batth warned the people on the spot to not fall into the trap of such builders and property dealers who lure them into investing in such illegal colonies.
Some villagers and locals alleged that the builders had duped many of them as they were not aware of the legal status of these colonies.
