Tokyo: Two players and staff members supporting the South African Wind Olympic football team have tested the positive Coronavirus in Tokyo, said the South African team on Sunday.
Three players Thabiso Monyane and Kamohelo Mahlatssi and Mario Masha video analyst – in isolation.
“The rest of the team has been tested negatively twice and follows all recommendations from the local health authority,” said the team in a statement.
All members of the South African delegation have been tested every day on arrival in the Olympic Village in the Japanese capital, said the team.
The fourth member of the South African Olympic delegation, Sevens Rugby Coach Neil Powell, also produced positive results and was in isolation facilities in the Japanese city where Sevens squad was in the training camp.
The previous week, the Tokyo Olympic organizer said two competitors had tested the positive Coronavirus in the village of athletes after a teammate was also infected, raising a concern of a cluster just before the opening ceremony.
The organizers did not identify the team involved.
