Bhubaneswar: Police Special Forces Commission on Monday arrested a group of three from Haryana for allegedly stealing more than Rs 1.5 lakh from several ATMs for the past two days by damaging the cash dispenser.
The gang targets a total of 11 not guarded ATMs, including five in Bhubaneswar and six in the Cuttack, from nationalized national banks.
The defendant was identified by the police as Mohammad Salman (18) and Raj Kumar Tanwar (35) from Faridabad, and Sheikh Kafaiyat (35) from Noah.
The police said the defendant came to Odisha in their SUV, who was confiscated.
They tried to steal cash from ATMs in the old city area when the bank received an alarm and immediately told the police, which led to their arrest.
Separating the modus of their operandi, the police said the defendant fiddled the tray of cash channels from the ATM to commit fraud.
“We found that the defendant damaged the cash window dispenser and put a small steel plate into it.
It hooded the engine spending system,” Sanjeev Satapati, assistant Commissioner of Police (Special Forces), said.
Allegations have taken many debit cards from their acquaintances and use those who cheat banks.
They first insert a debit card and place the amount they want to pull on the screen.
“They withdraw cash from expenses credited despite cash withdrawals from ATMs, “said Satapati.
The police tend to accuse being accused of being interrogated.
They said the defendant was part of a larger interstate gang whose members had targeted an ATM that was not maintained in various countries.
The police have suggested banks to improve security features, including their ATM software system, and spread security guards.
