Alibaug: A five-year-old girl and the other two sank in the river, which swelled due to heavy rains in Raigad Maharashtra district, flooded several cities, an official said on Thursday.
The Kundalika River and Savitri crossed a danger sign, each flooded several regions in Roha and MAHAD, while water from the Ulhas River entered the city of Karjat in the morning hours, the official said.
According to the District Authority, a 50-year-old man sank on the Savitri River in the Mahad City, while a 40-year-old man and his daughter was swept away on the Ulhas River in Karjat Taluka.
Sanjay Narghede fished from the Savitri River and rushed to the hospital, where he was declared dead, he said, added that Ibrahim Maniyar and his daughter Zoya from Damad Village sank in Ulhas, and the search was ongoing for them.
Raigad’s collector issued a warning to people living near the river, the river and along the coast, said the official, added that 53 families were evacuated from their homes in Sidharthnagar and Pradnyanagar Khopoli and shifted to a safe place, he said.
Likewise, the population of Jamruganga Boudhwadi and Bidhkurdha villages in Khalapur Taluka shifted to Zilla Parishad school, he added.
Rain also caused landslides in Warvanda Village on Jalan Bhor-Mahad, and vehicle traffic at Varandha Ghat was disturbed, the official said.
According to the data issued by the Collector’s office, Raigad has recorded 165 mm rain in 24 hours until 8:30 a.m.
The highest rainfall of 331.40 mm was recorded in Matheran, while Murud recorded the lowest at 43 mm.
The rainfall recorded until Thursday morning was 70.39 percent of the average annual rain in this district.
