Nagpur: Three legacy trees were trimmed for flag lifting on the Republican day, stating complaints that lodged in the conscious police station and the Department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC).
On Monday afternoon, environmental activists Sachin Khobragade saw several workers cutting tree branches that fully grown in the building of the state electricity distribution company Maharashtra (MSEDCL) office engineer on Jalan Katol.
“I asked them whether they had taken permission from the NMC Park Department.
When Labor said no, I immediately reported the same thing to officials,” Khobragade said.
According to Khobragde, the branches of the four Ashoka trees are completely cut.
“From here, three are inheritance trees because they are easy above 50 years,” added the complainant.
In accordance with Maharashtra protection (urban areas) amended and preserving the Tree Law, 1975, the status of ‘heritage’ has been given more than 50 years of trees.
“To cut branches in fact, permission from a mandatory Civic body,” Khobragade said.
Officials of the NMC Garden Department carried out a Panchnama place and also filed a complaint against the Head of the MSEDCL engineer.
“Officials also went to the conscious police station to file a complaint.
However, the first information report (FIR) has not been submitted,” said the source.
Quoting a similar incident, Khobragade stated that FIR was recently submitted at the Pratap Nagar Police Station against the logging of trees in the housing community.
“When one station officials can submit FIR, why their counter-part is not the same? Strict action is needed to avoid damage at green closure with trivial reasons like that,” Khobragade said.
Toi cannot contact the police official in question.
Meanwhile, MsEDCL spokesman said that the pole flag was shifted.
“We have gave work to the contractor and he cut several branches.
When we asked, he said that the action was done to avoid damage to the flag.
We also realize that trees should not be cut without permission,” he added.
