Coimbatore: The argument broke out between police officers and political party officials during the event which was held to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at the warning of his death in the city on Sunday.
The problem began when the police stopped members of the Senior CPM politbiro and other clothing leaders took an oath to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi and condemned RSS leaders.
The police claimed that they stopped the leaders because they took an oath because they did not get previous permission to conduct events.
Furthermore, references to RSS or Hindu leaders can lead to legal & order issues, they said.
