Daltonganj: A tiger was seen in Barisarn from the South Division Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) after almost a piece of about a year on Monday night, said forest officials on Tuesday.
Officials say they are now trying to collect scat and other samples such as prey who are killed by big cats to more validate their findings.
PTR Kumar Field Director Ashutosh said Baryarn Ranger Tarun Kumar Singh and his team consisting of six trackers had a direct sighting of tigers.
“We have all the reasons to trust our version of the ranger and tracker.
However, we need to find killings, signs of PUG and Scat of the Tiger,” said Ashutosh, added that Tarun was a dedicated ranger and knowing the importance of the direct sightings of tigers.
The last tiger appearance was reported at the beginning of 2020 through a trap camera.
At present, there is no consensus on the official figure of the Tiger at the PTR.
While NTCA, in his last national census, has found zero tigers in the PTR, reserve officials claiming about three to four tigers in the national park.
PTR is spread at 1,100 square kilometers with more than 400 square kilometers intended as a core area.
In other developments, Deputy Director of North Division Ptr, Kumar Ashish, said they had caught a picture of two leopard children at the crossroads number 3 and 5 in the number 2 compartment of Betla National Park.
“Cubs Leopard is not physically visible but their image is recorded in a super-high sensor camera installed in Betla National Park.
The children were recorded on November 5 at 5.54 at night,” he said, adding that the children looked healthy and energetic.
