Tiger count rises at Amrabad Reserve

Hyderabad: The Telangana Forest Department said there were 14 tigers at Amrabad Tiger Reserve compared to 12 recorded in 2019.
The Amrabad Reserve was home to the highest population of tigers in the state.
The latest findings about the presence of large cats came out during phase-IV monitoring were conducted in 2020-22, according to official release.
“During the phase-iv census in 2019, there are 12 tigers identified.
In monitoring phase-IV at 2020-21, the number increases to 14 …” he said.
Phase-IV monitoring is being carried out as part of training in every tiger reserve throughout the country.
Estimates of prey population density (Spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, wild pigs, antelope four horns and chinkara, among others) are done with the method of estimation of the pathway, he said.
Monitoring and estimation will provide area managers protected by ideas about problems such as prey-predatory density, prey density and tiger movements for management intervention can be done, the release said.
