GOLAGHAT: A man Royal Bengal Tiger has died after allegedly being struck with a stray bullet fired by forest guards to keep it from entering human habitations adjoining to the Kaziranga National Park in Assam’s Golaghat district, also a senior forest official said.
The major cat’s carcass was located close to Japoripothar at Karuabari region on Friday, divisional forest officer, Eastern Assam Wildlife Division, Ramesh Gogoi said.
“The tiger had killed a bovine animal in the region on Thursday.
Forest guards, that had been called from the natives, had opened fire to frighten the creature and also push it back into the jungle but it’s suspected that a stray bullet may have struck the huge kitty,” he explained.
A patrol team of the Forest Department seen the carcass through the afternoon.
Upon enquiry, it was discovered that the tiger had expired because of a bullet woundthat the woods officer included.
