Mysuru: The Department of Forest has confirmed that the tiger found dead near Kachuvinahalli who came under Nagarahole Tiger Reserve a few days ago was one that recently killed tribes near Ayyanakere Haadi in Taluk Hunsur.
On September 8, Ganesh (20), a resident of Ayakere Haadi in Hanagodu Hobli from Hunsur Taluk was killed by tigers when he went to attend a nature call.
Haadi is close to the Mudddaniahalli forest area that came under Anechokuru from the Wildlife Hunsur division from The Tiger Reserve.
After the death of Ganesh, the Ministry of Forestry and Special Force Protection Tiger (STPF) took a combing operation to track and capture tigers.
They put a camera trap and put up a trap cage in two places.
Director of Nagarahole Tiger Reserve D Mahesh Kumar said that on September 9, they verified the camera trap and found that the camera trap at Baale Katte and another near the cage had caught the movement of the tiger.
But after that the camera does not capture the movement of the tiger at the location.
To track tigers, the department has launched an allowance for elephant camps – Ganesh, Balarama, Arjuna and Mahendra – together with Mahouts and Kavadis, around 20 forest observers and forest guards and 15 people from STPF.
Mahesh said that on September 17, during the combing operation in the Kachuvinahalli forest near Kallakere, they found a carcass of a tiger.
They took photos captured by a camera trap and sent it to Tiger cells in Bengaluru for verification.
“We received a report from the cell that confirmed the tiger that killed the tribe resembling the tiger found dead in Kachuvinahalli based on lines on the body and other details.
This is the same tiger that kills the tribe,” he said.
