Udhagamandalam: The forest residents are killed by tigers in Bosepara Beat in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) area in Nilgiris on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as V Kunjikrishnan, 49, a resident of Muduguli Village, which is located in the core area of Mtr.
Relocation of villagers is in process.
Kunjikrishnan was on his way to the nearest city on foot when he met a tiger killed him.
After being informed by villagers, Mudumalai and Cargudi forest officers ranged with the forest veterinarian reached the place.
The initial inspection revealed that the man had been killed by Karnivora, said C H Padma, Deputy Director of the MTR-Core Zone.
“It was an accidental meeting.
The deceased had suffered a severe head injury when attacked by tigers.
He died in place,” the official said.
Muduguli villagers stopped the police and forest officials when they tried to shift the body to GHAL GH for postmortem.
They demanded that officials move them to a safer place immediately.
After speaking for one hour, the villagers let the body shift to the hospital.
According to Padma, Phase-III of the relocation process is taking place in Muduguli Village.
About 200 families have not been moved under phase-III.
