Chennai: Although generally it must take four to six hours for the Covid-19 RT-PCR test results to arrive, for many city residents, the results are postponed by one to three days.
Lakshmi S, a resident, said his father who had given a test on Wednesday in the private lab received the results only on Saturday.
“We took a test at a private hospital.
We can’t wait for the test results.
We go ahead with CT scan and start the treatment,” he said.
Likewise, another 84-year-old woman, who was tested at a government hospital on Wednesday, received the results on Friday.
“After my mother tested positively, corporate officials visited my house in Velachery and took my wife and children’s wipers on Saturday.
We haven’t received the results until Sunday night,” said a resident, who does not want himself or a government hospital to be named.
While Norma Covid-19 said someone could be issued if they were observed fever after three positive testing days in RPCR, the results of the delay could end in the quarantine period for patients.
Delays also have their mental aspects.
The doctor from the Department of Microbiology Stanley GH said there was an increase of samples that came from the recent corporation.
“We process the sample of the full day.
One-day delay in RPCR status can only occur in one or two cases,” said the doctor.
Commissioner City Corporation Gagandeep Singh Bedi said more than 30,000 tests were being carried out in the city lately.
This is an increase in the 20,000-odd test conducted until last week.
“For our knowledge, the results are given at the right time and there is no delay.
In the case of certain private laboratories delay the results, we will follow up,” he added.
