Timeline: Taliban progress that quickly crosses Afghanistan

Taliban guerrillas began to enter Kabul on Sunday after controlling all the big cities of Afghanistan apart from the capital.
The following are some of the main milestones in the progress of the Islamic militant movement in recent months.
Another deadly attack occurred, some were blamed for the Taliban and several other jihadist groups including the branch of the Islamic state.
Talks between Taliban and the Afghan government regarding political understanding that can lead to a peace agreement, supported by the United States and its allies, failed to make significant progress.
– April 14 – President Joe Biden announced US troops will withdraw from Afghanistan starting May 1 and ends on September 11, bringing the longest war of America to the close.
It is an extension of the deadline of the previous withdrawal agreed between the United States and the Taliban.
– May 4 – Taliban fighters launch a major attack on Afghan forces in South Helmand Province.
They also attacked at least six other provinces.
– May 11 – Taliban arrested the Nerkh district outside the capital of Kabul when violence increased throughout the country.
– June 7 – Senior government officials said more than 150 Afghan soldiers were killed in 24 hours as a deteriorating battle.
They added that battles went berserk in 26 of the 34 country provinces.
– June 22 – Taliban fighters launch a series of attacks north of the country, far from their traditional fortress in the south.
The UN envoy for Afghanistan said they had taken more than 50 of the 370 districts.
– July 2 – American forces quietly withdraw from their main military base at the Afghan air base – Bagram, about an hour drive from Kabul.
It effectively ends the involvement of A.S.
in the war.
– July 5 – Taliban said they could provide a written peace proposal to the Afghan government as soon as August.
– July 21 – The Taliban rebel controls about half of the country, according to senior U8, which underlines the scale and speed of their ascension.
– July 25 – The United States vowed to continue supporting Afghan troops “in the coming weeks” with intensive air strikes to help them fight the Taliban attack.
– July 26 – the United Nations said nearly 2,400 Afghan civilians were killed or injured in May and June in increasing violence, the highest number for the months since the record began in 2009.
– August 6 – Zaranj in the south of the country became the first provincial capital ibuk Fall into the Taliban for years.
Many more must be followed in the next day, including the valuable Kunduz city in the north.
– August 13 – Four more provincial capitals fall in a day, including Kandahar, the city of both countries and spiritual Taliban.

The United States sent more troops to help evacuate their civilians from Kabul when Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said he consulted with local and international partners in the following steps.
– August 15 – Taliban took the main city of Jalalabad without the fight, effectively surrounding Kabul.
– August 15 – Taliban rebels Enter Kabul, said an interior ministry official, because the United States evacuated diplomats from the embassy with a helicopter.
