TN: 1 Died as part of the Blyover Crash under construction

Madurai: Guest Workers from Uttar Pradesh died when the concrete part of Madurai-Natham’s flyover among the two pillars at Colony Bank near Naganakulam tanks in Madurai fell and fell eight meters to the ground on Saturday night.
Officials said the accident occurred because of technical barriers to hydraulic jacks when construction workers lifted Girder (precast concrete blocks) between pillars.
The Flyover is being built by the Indian National Highways Authority (NHAI).
The incident occurred at around 4:30 p.m.
when the worker was in the process of interlocking the i-girder on the flyover.
Only two workers – Akash Singh and Saroj Kumar – are involved in the task of handling hydraulic jacks and lifts used to lift girder.
Saroj Kumar is on the road that operates Jack while Akash Singh stands on a concrete structure.
There is an unexpected oil leak in the pipe that connects the hydraulic jack below and the elevator above, produces inconsistencies in oil pressure on the machine.
Immediately, one side of the girder is tilted and falls because of an imbalance, which results in a large structure that will fall.
Akash’s hand was trapped in it and was cut off when he also fell.
He suffered several fractures and was rushed to the Rajaji government hospital where he was said dead on arrival.
Saroj had a narrow escape when he managed to move.
The collapse part is part of the blanket arm that connects the service path.
There is no damage caused by the main flyover.
Because of the movement of vehicles where the accident took place blocked with construction material, no other incident.
The 7.3 km of Legaran is part of the 1,200 crore Madurai-Natham Highway RS four lanes which will reduce the distance between Madurai and Trichy and Chennai of 22 km.
Flyover construction at RS 694Crore began in November 2018 and will be completed in November 2020 but the pandemic is among the reasons cited for the delay in completion.
Finance Minister P T R Palanivel Thiaga Rajan fired rumors that the bridge collapsed.
“This is a workplace accident that unexpectedly occurs at the construction site,” he told reporters and added that it was because the hydraulic jack was broken.
Madurai City Police Commissioner Prem Anand Sinha said a case would be registered under the 304A IPC section because it caused death from negligence and they were investigating.
“GMC has taken a contract.
We are conducting an investigation with field supervisors and direct project managers,” he told toi.
