Chennai: The position of the city water is comfortable.
A few days ago, 1,000 million cubic feet (TMCFT) was realized in Tamil Nadu after neighbor Andhra Pradesh released water from his Kandaleru reservoir.
A senior public work official (PWD) said that during the last year of water (July 2020 to June 2021) the AP government released 8.24 TMCFT, the highest so far because the two countries signed an agreement to share water.
This year, in July only, the AP released 1 TMCF, which was realized in the Poondi Reservoir.
In April and May, the Poondi reservoir reached the level of detention and the PWD authorities began to do repair work in Krishna’s canal where water from the AP reached the Poondi reservoir.
Since the beginning of the year the current water, the government Andhra Pradesh has released water, quantity varies every day.
At the average, water at the level of nearly 700 cusecs (cubic feet per second) is being realized in the reservoir in Poondi, he said.
In accordance with the original agreement, the AP government will release 12 TMCT every year but has not exceeded 8.25 TMCFT, the official said.
As on Saturday, the Pondi reservoir received water at 670 Cusecs through Krishna’s canal.
The water received in Poondi was released to the red hill and the reservoir of Chembarambakkam because Pondi did not have treatment facilities.
Metrowater has established a treatment plant at the Red Hills reservoir and Chembarambakkkam, the official said.
“We have asked the AP government to release 4 TMCFT next month.
Reservoir Kandaleru in the AP has a full capacity of 68 TMCFT and current level is 36 TMCFT.
So we hope the AP government will release the water needed for TN,” PWD official said.

Last year, on the same day, the combined storage rate was 4,666 MCFT, adding officials.
