Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has repaired RS 1.2lakh per school student joined under 7.5% of special reservations in private engineering colleges this year.
Under special reservations, 7,876 students joined this year’s technical course.
In the government order issued on Monday, the Secretary of the Higher Education D Karthikeyan said the government would provide Rs 50,000 as a tuition fee (RS 55,000 for accredited courses) and RS 5,000 as a development fund, RS 40,000 as a hostel cost.
For students who use the College Bus, the government will cost 25,000 Rs or transportation collected by universities, which are lacking, he said in order.
The Corporation of Tamil Nadu medical services will provide Rs 74 Crore to the Directorate of Technical Education to provide fees for students.
The order also said the universities should not collect any cost of government school students who joined the special reservation and ordered them to create redressal cells complaints to overcome the problems faced by these students.
