Chennai: A driver of an ambulance killed his colleague, who had told their employers about his drinking habits while on duty, in Chengalpet on Sunday.
The police said the deceased, Vijayakumar, 33 KK Nagar, was employed as a driver for the last 15 years under Saravanan, who runs the company that displifted ambulances.
Vijayakumar was used to live in a room given to him by his employer at Periyar Nagar, along with fellow drivers Ajith, 30, Dharmadurai, 25, and King, 31, police said.
Last month, Vijayakumar complained verbally to his employer that Ajith was used to push an ambulance under the influence of alcohol.
Ajith was reprimanded by his employer and was warned against repeating this.
After rebuke, Ajith was used to take a fight with Vijayakumar for his complaint.
On Saturday night, Vijayakumar fell asleep in his room along with another driver when the battle broke between him and Ajith, said the police.
At 1 o’clock in the morning, the owner of the ambulanted ajith and asked him to send a freezer box in nemili and immediately return.
Before leaving the house, Ajith, in anger, dropped the grinding stone in Vijayakumar’s head, who fell asleep at the time of the attack.
Other drivers Dharmadurai and the king fell asleep after being drunk.
Ajith then went to hand over the freezer box and returned early on Sunday morning.
He woke up his friends and claimed that he found Vijayakumar lying in a pool of blood, and suspected that some criminals entered the house when he left and killed Vijayakumar.
He and his colleagues told his employer, who told the city police Chengalpet.
Vijyakumar’s body was sent for post mortem to the Chengalpet government hospital.
Ajid has a deep wound on his head.
When the police interrogated Ajith, he pretended to be innocent at first, but then claimed to have committed the murder.
Ajith was arrested and returned in judicial custody.
