Chennai: The leader of the Veteran BJP and former Rajya Party Sabha MP L Ganesan has been appointed as Manipur governor.
Tamil Governor Nadu Banwarilal Purohit congratulated Ganesan and extended his best expectations for “noble services for the people of Manipur”.
Minister of Chief M K Stalin welcomed Ganesan by telephone, the official press release said.
“The principled leader with a long experience, Ganesan has the affection of Kalaignar (M grounds),” said Minister of Stalin’s chairman in a social media post.
Ganesan, 76, became the second BJP leader from Tamil Nadu to be used as a governor of a country in recent years.
Former President of BJP TN Tamilisai Soundararajan, who was appointed as Governor of Telangana, is now holding additional charges as Lieutenant Governor Puducherry.
With deep roots at RSS, where he was part of 1967-91, Ganesan joined BJP in Tamil Nadu in 1991 as Secretary General (organization).
He held the position until 2003, when he was elevated as BJP National VicePressident.
Ganesan returns to Tamil Nadu as president of the party’s state unit.
He served at the post for three years.
He was then nominated to Rajya Sabha by BJP to serve the residual period after Najma Heptullah, who was elected to the upper house from Madhya Pradesh, Manipur governor made.
Ganesan serves the top house for 18 months.
It is interesting to note that the term Najma Heptullah as Manipur governor ends at the beginning of this month and now Ganesan has been appointed for the post.
Congress Lok Sabha MP from Trichy S Thirunavukkarasar, who was also nominated to Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh before when he was in BJP, considering that Ganesan was a hard-working and dedicated politician.
“He will come to Pulajottai only with a small travel bag and go about his work for a party, without worrying about the facilities.
His dedication was finally appreciated,” said Trybunakukkarasar to Ti.
The Aidmk coordinator of Panneerselvam and President TMC-M G K Vasan also welcomed Ganesan to his new role.
