Tuticorin: minutes after his marriage on Monday morning, the 22-year-old P Nisha in his sorry Sari issued a sharp flexible knife to do ‘Surul Vaal Veechu’, ‘Rettai Kambu’ (using two Silambam sticks) and ‘Adimarai’ the cement road in front of the wedding room in the village of Thirukolur.
The 30-minute performance of his marriage was creating awareness among women to learn self-defense.
Videos from the show were shot by villagers to viral on social media.
“It’s not easy to perform in saree and with makeup and heavy accessories as a bride.
I used to practice martial arts with a shirt and trunk,” said the bride to Ti.
He also fought with fellow students as part of the show.
“My husband Rajkumar Moses, 29 who is also Uncle Mother and Aasan (coach) Mariappan asked me to focus on my expertise and nothing else,” he said.
Nisha who aspires to become a police officer is a B.com graduate.
Students presented martial arts for one hour, thus maintaining wedding guests and villagers entertained for about 90 minutes.
He began studying traditional martial arts such as Silambam, Surul Vaal, Adimarai, Kalaripayattu and Theepantham (Fire Ball) three years ago as a student last year.
It was the motivation of his mother Mani, 45, that he continued to pursue a form of self-defense art.
Nisha is one of the 80 50-year-old Mariappan students who are trained at no cost.
After winning a lot of local Silambam competition, Nisha won the first prize in the district in Silambam last year and was third in the state competition in Tirupur.
Rajkumar, diploma and farmer holders, support martial arts and want him to use their marriage as a platform to show off his wife’s martial arts skills.
“We want to replace cultural events with the performance of martial arts to create awareness among women, so incidents such as sexual harassment scandals and suicide will not occur,” he said.
Note this Tamil Nadu bride is to destroy the internet for the action of the wedding day
